Issue 1, Autumn
2010
Welcome to our first issue!
Welcome to the inaugural SureHome newsletter.
This will be a combination of articles from our blog and other goodies and special offers. We aim to bring this to you regularly
and we’d welcome any feedback
on this issue and any suggestions for what you’d like us to cover in
future issues.
Time to let before Christmas!

Don't you hate having to
stay in for the whole of January because you're skint
after the spending spree that is Christmas and New Year? We were asked to write an article for
The Big Issue magazine this month.
In it we explain why there’s still plenty of time to let your
empty property and have one or two rent payments in your pocket before
Christmas! Read

When is it an
HMO?
At least one landlord has asked us
recently about letting out part of their own home. And more
specifically, is it still an HMO or "House in Multiple
Occupancy" (and therefore needs a licence)
if the owner is living there? It turns out that the legal demands
are rather different if you are letting out a room in your own home as
opposed to letting out the whole property. Note that some of the
information below may be specific to Scotland only.
In this article I'll share our
research into this subject and link to the various sources. Read more »

SureHome in the press
Landlord Focus is the magazine of the
Scottish Landlord Association. SureHome MD,
John Wilson, was the subject of an article in their series on successful
Scottish landlords. He talks about the challenges he has faced in his
career, including an interesting story about Buckfast!

Government ditches
lettings regulation plan
The government has ditched Labour's plans to introduce Legislation for the
private-rented sector, which proposed to fully regulate lettings and
managing agents, wrote the Negotiator magazine last month.
On one hand this is good news for
agencies as it keeps red tape to a minimum and thus keeps costs down for
their customers. However on the other hand, there are still a lot
of rogue agents out there. We are still regularly contacted by
landlords who have been ripped off by other agents - either
constructively or just through poor service. Read

Are you
investing?
If you are investing
just now, there are some great deals to be had and we hear about many of
them first. For example, we
recently had a cracking one bed flat in Broomhill
for around 25% discount on the home report valuation. If you are in the market to buy and
want to be the first to know about this sort of deal, then contact us now to let us know.
Next
issue
The next issue of this
newsletter will be a rent to buy special.
Rent to buy is a concept that we’ve imported from the Australians,
which solves many of the problems that the UK property market is
currently experiencing. See you
next time! John
