This weekend we attended the Property Super Conference in London.  Lord Alan Sugar was the headline speaker and it was very interesting to hear his take on property investing.  Lord Sugar has a property portfolio worth around £300,000; made up of mostly commercial property.  This sounds impressive in itself, but when you hear that it is completely unencumbered - as in he has no lending on any of it - it is even more amazing. 

Lord Sugar described how he had decided to get into property after a Japanese investment banker lost £250,000 of his money in the eighties.  He saw property as a safe place to put the profits that he made from his other businesses.

The crowd was clearly impressed by Lord Sugar's trademark no-nonsense straight talking as they sent him home with a standing ovation!
