Government ditches lettings regulation plan
The government has ditched Labour's plans to introduce Legislation for the private-rented sector, which proposed to fully regulate lettings and managing agents, writes the Negotiator magazine this month.
On one hand this is good news for agencies as it keeps red tape to a minimum and thus keeps costs down for their customers. However on the other hand, there are still a lot of rogue agents out there. We are still regularly contacted by landlords who have been ripped off by other agents - either constructively or just through poor service.
It can be difficult to get out of a letting agency contract, so make sure to choose your agent wisely and go on personal recommendation if possible or at the very least ask your proposed agent for testimonials.
Although compulsory regulation is off the cards, look for agents who are voluntarily accredited. SureHome is an accredited agent under the Landlord Accreditation Scotland scheme.
